The little guide Open Saywit

A little guidance

Make room for
good conversation.

The small things that make Saywit feel like yours.

A helpful nudge. Your choice, always. Illustrated example

First things first

Three small steps.

You can settle in as you go.

  1. 01

    Begin with your email

Confirm your email address, choose a password, then sign in. Your phone can wait.

    A secure start
  2. 02

    A little introduction

Saywit guides you through your names, screen name and an optional photo.

    Meet your companion
  3. 03

    Find someone to talk to

Choose New message, find someone by email or number, and pick a chat mode.

    Start a conversation
01

Good conversations, your way.

Smart or Private?Choose the right space for the conversation.
✧ Smart

Conversations with assistants, contextual suggestions, and search by meaning. Eligible content is processed by the AI and search services used for these features.

⌑ Private

End-to-end encrypted conversations for two people. Their messages and uploaded attachments stay out of cloud AI and online search. An optional LocalAI text assistant can run on your own computer in a supported desktop preview.

Choose the mode when you create a chat. Asking an assistant privately inside a Smart chat hides that request and answer from other participants; it does not turn the chat into a Private encrypted chat.

Explore how Private encryption works or what protects a Smart chat. A chat’s mode cannot be changed after creation.

Keep the flow

Messages sent together are grouped to keep the conversation tidy. Use Reply to thread to respond to the group, or a message’s reply control for a specific message. Reactions stay attached to the message you choose.

Use your message’s menu to edit or delete it. Edited messages keep a history of changes. Saywit asks before deleting.

Say it a little more like youEmoji, stickers, and small graphics among your words.

Put the cursor where you want an expression, then open the smile button beside the composer. Choose Emoji, Stickers, or Custom emoji. Pick an item and keep writing: stickers and custom emoji stay among your words when you send, in Smart and Private conversations.

Put the cursor where the picture belongs. Keep writing around it.Illustrated example · Saywit pack artwork

Choose Find more packs to browse a collection and preview its artwork. Use Add to picker for a free or owned pack. When a paid pack is available, its price appears before you choose to buy it. Purchases are available for personal accounts when enabled.

Use My packs to manage your collection. Remove from picker hides a pack from the picker without removing ownership; you can add it again later.

Connect to the internet to add or send pack graphics. They share a limit of three different graphics or other files per message with attachments. Ordinary emoji are text and do not use a file slot. Private messages encrypt their pack artwork together with the conversation.

02

A little assistance.

Ask, follow up, keep goingAssistants that stay in the conversation.
  • >Ask Saywit publicly. Your request and answer appear in the chat.
  • @Choose an agent or mention a person. People appear after three letters.
  • !Choose your assistant for a private request and answer, visible only to you.

Type a prefix in the composer, then your question. You can also ask about a message or grouped thread from its assistant control.

Mention the right person

In Profile → About you → Username, choose the name people use to mention you. It is separate from your sign-in email. The picker keeps agents and people in separate groups and shows people from your conversations and contacts.

In a Smart chat, a person mention can help Saywit understand who a task is for. For example, @anna Please create a ClickUp task to review the proposal. Choose the person from the picker, connect the service you want to use, and review the assistant’s next step. An unclear recipient needs clarification before assignment. A greeting needs no action. In an encrypted Private chat, person suggestions stay on your device and person mentions do not trigger online AI or connected actions.

Choose a person from the suggestions, then write your message.Illustrated example

Bring photos and files into your question

Use the paperclip, paste, or drag files into the conversation while asking an assistant. Add up to three files per message. Videos can be up to 100 MB by default; other files can be up to 20 MB. Your administrator can set limits for each file type. Photos and supported PDF, Office, and text documents can help your assistant understand what you mean. You can also reply to a message or message group to ask about its attached files; the three-file limit includes that selection.

The model chooser shows Reads photos when photo support is confirmed. If your model is text-only or its photo support is unconfirmed, Saywit asks you to choose another model before sending a photo question. Supported text documents still work with text-only models, and you can continue sharing photos with people normally.

With > or @, the files join your request in the chat. With !, the files and answer are visible only to you. Your selected AI provider still processes the files; this is separate from an encrypted Private chat.

If more information is needed, reply in the assistant’s question beside the conversation. A subtle animation stays visible while work continues. The final answer appears as part of the chat.

The right model for the job

Add your provider in Settings → AI models, then configure an agent in Agents. The compact model control in a Smart chat lets you choose from your configured models.

Saywit can look for useful next steps and earlier messages to offer a private suggestion with a source you can open. Your selected assistant handles your questions and connected services. Suggestions depend on context and available services; every message does not need one.

Your little companion keeps useful suggestions and confirmations close by, and can move out of the way when you need more space.

Check a factual claimQuiet markers, with evidence you can open.

Saywit checks public factual claims in the background. A tiny dot pulses while checking: yellow for Laya or orange for Jev, then turns green for True or red for False. Hover, focus or tap a result for its sources and a correction when available. If the check cannot confirm a result, the dot disappears. Everyday conversation stays unmarked.

A quiet dot below the time. Open it for the sources and a correction.Illustrated example

In Profile → Overview, False claims counts your current, sourced results in the selected period. The activity chart and chat list show where they occurred. Stale results, deleted or inaccessible messages and disabled checks do not count. Editing a message removes its older result until the new revision is checked.

You choose where it runs

  • Off by default. Turn it on or off for a Smart chat in Chat settings → AI → Factual checks. The chat owner controls this choice for everyone in that conversation.
  • Settings → Security → Factual checks applies your choice to Smart chats you own and sets the default for new ones you create. You can change each chat separately afterwards.

Saywit waits about two seconds after a message and pauses while you keep typing. Consecutive fragments from the same person can be checked as one passage, with a single dot on the last message. Open it to see the complete passage. A sourced False passage counts once in your statistics; editing or deleting any fragment removes the old result.

When enabled, complete Smart passages go to Jev to evaluate their meaning, followed by source-based verification of public factual claims. Unsent drafts and encrypted Private messages are never included. Checks run without holding up your messages. Review the linked evidence when a claim matters.

Connect the things you useCalendar, tasks, files, and your own services.
  1. Open Settings → Connections and connect a service.
  2. Open Agents to choose a custom agent’s connections. The built-in Saywit assistant includes all connected services.
  3. Ask for what you need in a Smart chat. Review a permission request when it appears.

Google services connect separately. For another supported service, use the connection details it provides. Each connection’s status shows whether it is ready to use.

An assistant may need several tools to complete a request: find the right list, check a detail, then create the task. You can follow its progress in the same reply.

If a connection stops working, use its Manage controls to refresh or reconnect it. Tool availability depends on the service and your account’s access.

GitHub in your conversationUnderstand repository activity and review the next step.
  1. Open Settings → Connections → GitHub.
  2. Create a fine-grained token on GitHub, choose an expiration and the repositories you want to use, then paste it into the protected connection form.
  3. Ask Saywit in a Smart chat, or enable GitHub for a custom agent under Agents.

For example: “Which pull requests in owner/repository need attention?”, “Check CI for this change”, or “Create an issue with these reproduction steps”. Saywit can read repository details, issues, pull requests, changed files, commits, checks and workflow runs, and link to the evidence behind its answer.

Grant read access to Contents, Issues, Pull requests, Actions and Checks for the information you need. To manage issues or pull requests, enable write access for those permissions; creating branches and merging also need Contents write access. Your organization may need to approve the token. A verified connection does not grant access beyond the repositories and permissions selected on GitHub.

Review the repository and exact change in the action card. Saywit can create or update issues, post comments, create branches and draft pull requests, and merge a reviewed pull request. Each change needs its own approval. A merge uses the reviewed commit; if it has changed, refresh and review again. GitHub's repository rules still apply.

Partial lists, missing checks and unknown mergeability are not a complete review. Private chats do not use online GitHub tools. Disconnect in Connections to remove Saywit's saved access, or revoke the token on GitHub.

A pause for your permissionSmall questions. Clear choices.

The companion asks when an action needs confirmation. Read the action and its destination, then use the buttons or type a clear reply such as yes, no, tak, or nie. An unclear answer does not approve an action.

Read the action and where it goes, then choose. An unclear reply never approves it.Illustrated example

For connected tools, Allow all applies to the actions shown in that request. When a Remember option is available, its label describes the scope you are allowing. Review it before choosing it. A saved tool permission is limited to that assistant, chat, and tool; learning from your habits does not approve new actions.

Closing a question or choosing to keep an item does not approve a deletion. Browser permissions for notifications, the microphone, or the camera still appear in your browser’s own prompt.

Review and forget remembered permissions in Settings → Agents → Saved permissions. Custom agents use only their selected connections; the built-in Saywit assistant includes all connected services.

03

Find the part that matters.

04

A space that feels like you.

A warm welcome, one small step at a timeYour companion helps you settle in.

After your new account’s first successful sign-in, Saywit’s companion introduces each step. Add your first and last names, choose the screen name you want to use, and add a profile photo if you like. You can skip the photo and add one later. Existing accounts keep their current profiles.

Keeping these names separate gives you control over how you appear. First and last names stay in your own account details. Your screen name helps people recognise you in conversations, according to its People and Assistant sharing choices. It does not need to be unique and is not used to sign in. Your photo follows its own sharing choice. Names and photos are not encryption keys.

Ask while you settle in

Use the companion’s question box if you want help with a step. Welcome guidance uses Saywit’s configured AI service, so you do not need your own API keys or a subscription. A small allowance of up to eight submitted questions is available during setup; this guide remains available afterwards.

Only the question you choose to send and a short product guide go to that AI service. Your entered names, profile photo, contacts, chat history and learned context are not included. The companion can explain getting started; welcome questions do not run tools or unlock paid Smart features.

A phone number is optional. Add it later in Profile → About you, confirm it by SMS, then choose whether people can find you by number.

Your profile, at a glanceA familiar face and a view of your activity.

Click your name or photo in the sidebar to open Profile. Settings remain a separate place for account and app preferences.

  1. Open About you to update your screen name, contact details and profile picture. Changing your screen name keeps the first and last names from your welcome setup separate.
  2. Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image up to 5 MB. Preview it, then save. Saywit stores an optimized copy.
  3. Use the small remove control if you want to return to initials. The companion asks before removing your photo.

Your activity overview includes messages, assistant requests, recorded model replies, and successful tool actions. Choose 7, 30, or 90 days, then select a day to explore the related chats. These are your own activity figures in chats still visible to you, not token billing or other participants’ private usage.

Tokens and cost

Switch the chart to Tokens or Cost to see recorded usage by day and model. A token is a small piece of text processed or generated by a model. Input includes the context sent to it; output is what it generates. Tool workflows can make several model calls for one question.

Usage tracking starts with new requests. It includes your assistant calls and background context or profile work, even if you later hide a chat. Only complete provider token reports enter the token totals. Coverage counts show missing reports and calls without a known price; a dash means unavailable, not free.

Costs are USD estimates using the model’s published rates when the request was recorded. They are not invoices. Separate subscriptions, search processing, connected services, taxes, credits, and account-specific discounts are excluded. Your provider’s billing page is the final source for charges.

Your company's logoMake your workspace recognizable.

On the first visit to a company workspace without an approved logo, its owner or administrator uploads an image, checks the preview and chooses Approve logo. This completes logo setup for the company, so other administrators do not have to repeat it.

Use PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 5 MB. Saywit checks the image, removes embedded metadata and preserves its proportions and transparency. Animated files and SVG are not supported. Saywit records who approved the logo and when.

The approved logo replaces Saywit's mark in the company sidebar. While setup is pending or the image cannot load, the company name stays visible. Members cannot change the logo. Owners and administrators can replace it in Company → Policies, reviewing and approving the new image before it takes effect.

Invite someone, earn a little thank youInvitation links, credits and subscription rewards.

In New message, look for someone by exact email address or phone number. If there is no contact to show, choose Invite to Saywit. Share your invitation link, or send an invitation email. The companion asks before sending. Phone invitations use the shareable link; this does not send an SMS.

A hidden profile is not proof that someone has no account. Send message request remains available for people who already use Saywit but keep discovery off. Invitations do not expose whether an email address belongs to an existing account.

A credit for a new arrival

You receive 1 credit when a new person registers through your invitation and verifies their email or phone number. Each new account earns one registration reward; existing accounts and self-referrals do not earn credits. Verify your own email or phone before sending invitation emails.

Every successful subscription payment also earns credits, including renewals. A monthly payment earns 1 credit for the inviter and 1 for the subscriber; a yearly payment earns 2 credits for the inviter and 1 for the subscriber. The own-key monthly plan earns the monthly reward. Free trials and unsuccessful payments do not earn purchase credits.

Every 10 credits is automatically exchanged for a personal promo code worth 20% off one Saywit subscription payment. The exchanged credits appear in your history immediately. A reward may briefly show “Preparing your code” while the payment service creates it.

Your invitations and rewards

Open Profile → Invites & credits to copy your invitation link, see your balance, and scroll through credits received and exchanged. Use the history filters or load earlier activity to explore previous rewards.

For an active subscription or trial, choose Use on next payment; your companion asks before applying the reward. For your first seven-day trial, apply your reward here after the trial starts so it discounts the first paid invoice. For later subscriptions without a trial, copy the code and enter it in Stripe Checkout. A code belongs to your account and can be used once. Rewards do not stack with another subscription discount; keep additional codes for a later payment.

Credits are referral rewards, not a cash balance. Your invitation link identifies the referrer but does not give anyone access to your account or chats. Private chats stay free.

Your contact details, your choiceDecide what chat members and AI can see.

Open your profile and choose About you. Manage your screen name and email, and add a phone number if you want to. The small People and Assistant switches apply separately to the screen name, email and phone number; save your details to apply them. First and last names from welcome setup stay in your own account details. A photo can be shared with chat members or kept private.

Both switches off means Only you. People lets participants in your chats see that detail. Assistant lets AI use it for private assistance and background analysis in Smart chats. Turn on both to allow both audiences, including public assistant answers. For example, Assistant alone can help a private answer use your email without showing it to other participants. Sharing does not create a public internet directory; Private chat content stays excluded from online AI. An optional LocalAI assistant can use loaded text on your own computer.

Add a phone number later

You do not need a phone number to register. If you add one, use an international number, such as a Polish +48 number. Request an SMS and enter its six-digit code within three minutes. Your saved number stays unchanged until the code succeeds. Codes have resend and attempt limits. If SMS delivery is not configured, Saywit shows that verification is unavailable.

People can find your profile by number only after verification and when phone discovery is enabled. Turning discovery off does not stop existing conversations. Someone who knows your complete number can still send a message request, which you choose whether to accept. Showing the number in an existing chat is a separate People choice.

Confirm your email

Add or change your email in About you, then follow the confirmation link sent from [email protected]. The link expires after 30 minutes and can be used once. Your existing address stays in place until you confirm the new one. If it has expired, request a new email; check your spam folder if it does not arrive.

New accounts start with an email address. Confirm it first, then choose your password and sign in. Saywit guides you through your profile on your first login. Only a verified email can be used to sign in. Existing phone sign-ins remain available. Email confirmation proves access to that inbox; it does not verify your phone number or enable phone discovery.

Email is private by default. Verification does not turn on sharing: its People and Assistant switches remain separate choices. If you did not request a confirmation email, ignore it. Verification emails are account messages, not marketing subscriptions.

These controls apply to profile metadata. They cannot remove information you type into messages, earlier assistant answers, or copies already downloaded by someone else.

A request before a conversationFind people by email or phone, and choose who you chat with.

Choose New message in the sidebar, select Private or Smart, then enter an exact email address or complete international phone number. Private is free and encrypted; Smart uses your plan. Smart also offers Create a group, followed by adding people. If no profile is shown, choose Send message request.

The acknowledgement is the same whether the email or number is hidden, unverified, or has no account. It confirms that Saywit recorded the request, not that a person has received it. No recipient profile or chat is exposed before acceptance.

Incoming invitations appear in the sidebar’s Requests section for the verified owner of the email address or phone number, even when phone discovery is off. Accept opens the conversation; dismiss keeps it closed. Repeated sends do not reopen a dismissed request. Pending requests expire after 30 days.

A request contains an invitation to chat, not message content. Your name is shown according to your profile-sharing choices. Messages and files are sent only in the conversation after acceptance.

Email lookup can show an existing chat contact whose verified address is shared with chat members. Email sharing does not create a public directory: new contacts receive a request first. Requests wait until their recipient verifies the matching email or phone number. SMS is not needed for an email request.

On desktop, use the small sidebar toggle to keep only New message and chat avatars. Unread dots remain visible, and Saywit remembers the layout for your account. Expand it again to search, manage requests or open your profile.

Chats and contacts, close at handConversations and connections, with a little more room.

Contacts brings together people in your visible conversations. Choose a person to return to your chat or start a free Private conversation. Each person appears once, even when you share several chats.

Sent message requests also appear here while pending. They stay anonymous until accepted: a request does not reveal whether a hidden account exists. After acceptance, the person becomes a chat contact.

Collapse Chats or Contacts separately using its heading. The sidebar toggle makes more room for the conversation while keeping the avatar rail nearby.

Your subscription belongs to your account. You can message people who do not have a plan; Private messaging remains free and encrypted. Your contacts’ payment details are not displayed.

Chat models and analysis defaultsYour chat choice stays separate from background work.

Choose the provider and model beside the Smart chat title. The choice is saved for you in that chat; another participant can choose differently. Follow-up answers keep the model chosen for that request. If it is no longer available, choose another model explicitly.

In Settings, the checked provider and its Model outside chats are your default for background assistance and profile learning. Save AI settings to apply a new choice. Chat replies use the model you choose in that chat; changing this default does not replace it.

Your plan and configured providers determine which models are available to you. A listed model can still be unavailable from its provider. The monthly allowance below can temporarily limit your model choices; Saywit keeps your chosen provider.

Open-weight models

Expand Ollama or OpenAI-compatible in Settings → AI & analysis. Choose an approved server address, refresh models, select an installed chat model and save. A key is optional for local servers. Compatible services include LM Studio, llama.cpp and vLLM. Company workspaces keep their model approvals and access limits.

These addresses are reached from the Saywit server. For models running on your own computer, use the desktop app’s Local AI workspace. Server models currently work with text; photos require a provider with photo support. Saving a server and model keeps background analysis off until you choose that default.

Your monthly AI allowance

When you use Saywit’s included AI, recorded costs include chat replies and background assistance. At US$15 in a calendar month, your choices switch to available lower-cost models. Your chat stays with its chosen provider. If that provider has no eligible model, choose another provider before continuing. Your saved model preference becomes available again when the allowance resets.

The month runs in UTC and resets at midnight on the first day of the next month. The small notice in the model chooser and AI settings shows when lower-cost models are in use.

These are recorded cost estimates, not a provider invoice or a hard US$15 spending cap. Lower-cost use continues after the threshold, and requests already in progress can finish. If usage cannot be priced or checked, model choices may be limited while it is reconciled; missing costs are not counted as zero.

The allowance applies to Saywit’s included AI. Using your own provider keys or company-supplied keys keeps their normal model access.

A little context about contactsNotes for you and your personal AI assistance.

In Contacts, choose the small notes icon beside a person. Write useful background, such as their role, a project you share, or how they prefer updates. Save your changes; clearing the text and saving removes the note.

Notes belong to your account and are encrypted in storage. The person and other chat members cannot open them. They are separate from encrypted Private chat history.

Use for AI lets your personal assistant use the note when that person participates in the current Smart chat. Relevant notes may be sent to your configured AI provider for a private answer or suggestion. They are your reference notes, not verified facts about the person.

Shared assistant replies and Private chat AI requests do not receive these notes. Notes are not copied into learned memories. Turn off Use for AI to keep a note just for yourself; save an empty note to remove it.

Think with a model on your computerLocal AI in the desktop app.

In the Saywit desktop app, open Settings → AI & analysis → Models on this computer. Configure your installed Ollama runtime or OpenAI-compatible local server, refresh models and save your preferences. Saywit uses models already installed in that runtime.

In an existing chat, open the model selector beside its title, choose LocalAI, then an installed model. Ask in the normal composer: @Saywit or > shares a reply in a Smart chat; !Saywit keeps the reply visible only to you. Replies appear directly in the conversation.

In encrypted Private chats, ordinary local questions and replies stay on this device, including while offline. These temporary replies clear when you change account, chat or model, or close the window. In supported desktop installations, the Local AI dialog also offers Search selected cloud knowledge: this separate choice sends only the question you type for cloud document retrieval, then lets the local model use the selected passages. It excludes Private chat history; see document knowledge. Smart-chat replies use the usual shared message stream or private assistant history.

LocalAI uses recent loaded text within the model’s context capacity. Files and protected-login cards are excluded. Your runtime manages CPU and GPU acceleration; larger contexts need more memory. LocalAI has no connected tools or automatic cloud fallback. Background analysis keeps its configured provider. Local chat models are available in personal workspaces.

Choose an installed model. Ask in the conversation.Illustrated Private-chat example · temporary local reply

Desktop previews can offer different controls. Check the desktop download page and your installed app. Follow this chat walkthrough when your model selector offers LocalAI; an older preview may show a separate Local AI workspace.

Give a chat a little contextWhat this conversation is here for.

Open a Smart chat’s details and add context: what the chat is about, useful background, or a shared goal. Each participant can add their own contribution, and all chat members can read it.

Chat context helps AI interpret that conversation. Keep it relevant to the people in the chat. Your profile’s written assistant context describes you across your Smart chats. Open About the people in this chat below Chat context to read the notes its current participants have shared; learned personal memories are not shown there.

Context and follow-ups can be reviewed in the chat’s insights. Recent changes show meaningful updates and recorded assistant actions, with more history available when you need it.

Following this conversation is your own Smart-chat setting. When it is on, Saywit can save useful, source-linked details and follow-ups for your private assistance. The Conversation context panel shows the newest details and changes first; open a source message to check it, or forget a saved detail. Direct assistant replies can also draw on a few relevant older messages from that same Smart chat when search is available. Recent corrections take priority, and public replies do not include your private learned memory. Private encrypted chats are excluded.

A monthly summary of your conversationThe ideas, decisions and moments worth returning to.

Open a Smart chat’s settings and turn on Monthly summary. It starts off for each person. Your choice applies only to you and this chat; it does not turn summaries on for other participants. Summaries are visible only to you.

Saywit prepares the previous calendar month after the next month begins, using the chat summary’s saved timezone, shown on each report. The next date appears in chat settings. View summaries lets you revisit a month or prepare a completed month now. You can keep chatting while it is being prepared. Turn the switch off to stop future automatic summaries.

A thoughtful recap

The AI reads eligible messages from that Smart conversation and its shared chat context to describe the main topics, decisions, plans and unresolved questions. It uses your configured analysis default, rather than changing the model chosen for chat replies. Subscription and AI-provider access still apply. Relevant Smart-chat text and shared context are sent to the configured AI provider; private encrypted chats and private assistant conversations are excluded.

Summaries are an AI interpretation, so check important details against the conversation. Long conversations may be sampled to keep the request within model limits. A coverage notice appears when the recap includes only part of the month. Attached files are counted; a summary does not promise to reread every attachment.

The month, in numbers

The cards and chart show human messages, public AI replies, files shared and active days across the chat. Your tools counts your recorded completed assistant-tool actions in that conversation. Your memories counts your recorded saved conversation memories. These two counters belong to your activity and do not reveal other participants’ private assistant activity.

Daily numbers provide the same information as the chart. Counts use the calendar month and the report’s timezone. Deleted or unavailable messages are not reconstructed. Historical tools and memories may be incomplete where earlier records were not retained; those values are retained counts, not a claim that no other activity happened. A quiet notice marks this limitation.

05

The everyday details.

Help shape SaywitTell us what went wrong, or what would help you.

Choose Share feedback in the sidebar, or use your companion’s feedback control. Select Bug or Feature request, choose the area, and add a title and details. For a bug, describe the steps you took, what you expected and what happened.

Explain what would help. Review what you share. Keep the report reference.Illustrated example

You can attach up to three PNG, JPEG or WebP screenshots, each up to 5 MB. Screenshots are optional; review them for information you do not want to share. Browser and app details are also optional, and you can check those details before including them.

Review your report, then choose Send feedback while connected. Once Saywit confirms the submission, it shows a report reference. Keep that reference when following up. If sending cannot be confirmed, your draft stays in the window so you can try again.

Your report helps the Saywit team understand the problem or idea.

Stay in the loop, softlyNotifications and reminders that fit your day.

Open the bell beside the Saywit logo for Reminders & notifications. Reminders, notifications and settings have their own tabs. Each update has a small card you can open, mark read or dismiss.

Mention notices open the exact message where someone tagged you in a Smart chat you belong to. Reaction notices lead back to your message. Knowledge updates let you review newly saved context. Work updates show when an assistant has saved a task or its status changes. Upcoming reminders keep their dates and completion controls.

Choose the categories you want in the Settings tab or Settings → Notifications. Quiet hours follow your saved account timezone and pause new notification prompts; updates stay available in the inbox.

A little personality

Playful nudges are optional and off by default. Turn them on for occasional short jokes or encouragement tied to interests you explicitly saved with profile learning enabled. Choose weekly or daily; Saywit skips quiet hours and avoids repeating the same nudge.

Enable available browser or desktop notifications for message, call and reminder alerts outside the open chat. The notification inbox is available while signed in.

If alerts are missing, check your browser’s permission for Saywit and your device’s notification settings. Use the sound preview to try the gentle alert. Sound may only become available after you interact with the page.

In the desktop app

Choose Enable in Settings → Notifications to allow desktop alerts for your account. Messages and reminders use a generic preview without conversation text, including Private chats.

Desktop alerts work while Saywit is running. In supported installations, enable Settings → Desktop app → Keep running when the window closes to hide or minimize the window while keeping it running; notification consent alone does not turn on background operation. Choose Quit to stop the app. Your operating system’s notification settings, Focus or Do Not Disturb can still silence alerts. Saywit can report that it requested an alert, but cannot verify that the operating system displayed it.

Use your reminders to review upcoming items, reschedule them, or mark them complete. A date mentioned in a Smart conversation may lead to a suggestion; it is not a guarantee that a reminder or calendar event has been created. Check the confirmation and the saved item.

Archive a conversationA tidier list, with nothing deleted.

Open a chat’s settings and choose Archive chat. The conversation leaves your chat list, while its messages, files and drafts stay exactly as they are. Archiving is your own choice: other participants keep their view.

Archived chats stay archived when new messages arrive. Use the archive switch beside the Chats heading to show them, open one to read its history, then choose Restore chat to bring it back.

While a chat is archived, it is left out of your search results and your assistant’s recall. Restoring it makes it searchable again. Archiving is not deleting: the small delete control beside it asks first, then removes the chat from your list.

Install SaywitA home for your conversations, one tap away.

Open Saywit in your browser, then add it to your home screen or desktop. You can keep using it in a browser too.

iPhone & iPad

In Safari, open Share → Add to Home Screen. You may need to open the page menu or choose View More first. If shown, keep Open as Web App on, then tap Add.

Android

In Chrome’s ⋮ menu, choose Install and create shortcut → Install. Some versions label this Install app or Add to Home screen. Follow the browser’s prompt.

On your computer

For the native desktop app, open Saywit downloads and choose Mac, Windows or Linux and the matching processor. On Mac, open the disk image and drag Saywit to Applications. On Windows, open the installer. On Linux, extract the portable archive and open Saywit from its folder. Check the release status and installation notice on the download page before installing.

Check the signing status beside your download. Mac packages marked Signed & Apple-notarized have a verified developer signature and have passed Apple’s notarization checks. Packages marked Not Apple-notarized may need Open Anyway under System Settings → Privacy & Security after you try to open them; use this only if you trust the download and follow Apple’s installation guidance. Windows packages marked Unverified publisher may show a security warning. Managed computers may require your administrator’s approval.

Desktop version 0.1.3 and later checks for new releases while it is running and downloads verified updates automatically. Older installations need the latest preview from Saywit downloads once to add these controls.

Open Settings → Desktop app → App updates. Choose Check now, or change Automatically download new releases. A ready update offers Restart to install, or Open installer when automatic replacement is unavailable. Save your work before restarting. On Mac, restarting can install an update when the downloaded app passes macOS security checks and Saywit can safely replace the installed app. Otherwise, use the downloaded installer—for example, when running from a disk image or a protected location. macOS security controls still apply. Windows and Linux previews still need testing on their own systems.

The desktop app adds LocalAI models in your chats and, in supported installations, selected document knowledge and background controls. You can also install the website using your browser:

  • Chrome: choose the address-bar install icon, or ⋮ → Cast, save, and share → Install page as app.
  • Edge: choose … → More tools → Apps → Install this site as an app.
  • Safari on Mac: choose File → Add to Dock on macOS Sonoma 14 or later.

Options vary by browser, device and version. If installation is unavailable, use Saywit in a normal browser tab. To receive alerts, open the installed app and check notification settings.

A separate browser or app may have its own Private device and local storage. In Settings → Private chats, choose Sync on this device on the new device and Approve a new device on the original. Compare the security codes before approving. Keep the original device’s data until you have checked the synced history. A Recovery & backup remains available if you prefer a file and separate recovery key; see devices and history transfer.

Keep Saywit available

In a supported native desktop installation, open Settings → Desktop app. Turn on Keep running when the window closes to keep Saywit available in Windows’ notification area, the Mac menu bar or a supported Linux tray. If a tray icon is unavailable, the app remains reachable through the taskbar or Dock. Start Saywit when I sign in is a separate, optional system preference and may be unavailable in a development build or on a managed computer.

Background work needs the app running and your account signed in. Closing the window can keep it running; Quit Saywit stops it. Sleep and loss of connection pause scanning. Native notification settings, Focus and Do Not Disturb still control alerts.

Work comfortably with your system

From desktop version 0.1.6, Saywit reduces parallel search and hashing work when every window is hidden or minimized. On Mac and Windows it also responds to battery power and system CPU limits; Mac thermal warnings can reduce work further. Current tasks can finish, unused workers release memory, and normal capacity returns when conditions improve. Your local AI runtime manages its own model memory and processor use.

Right-click text for familiar editing controls and available spelling suggestions. Choose Add to dictionary only for words you want the spelling checker to remember. On Mac, selected text also offers Look Up. Download and update progress appears in the Mac Dock, Windows taskbar or a supported Linux launcher, so you can follow a transfer while working elsewhere.

Choose documents for your knowledge

  1. Open Settings → Desktop app → Documents.
  2. Choose Choose folder or Choose files and use the system picker. Select only a location and documents you have permission to use. Saywit does not scan your whole computer.
  3. Review the selected location and the storage/provider notice. Selection alone sends no document content. Choose Start indexing to allow extraction and cloud processing.
  4. Keep Saywit running while it scans. Follow the current file, PDF page progress and indexed passages. Open Files to check for a file that needs attention; you can pause scanning at any time.
  5. Ask an Only you question in a Smart chat using !Saywit or the private assistant question control. Enabled indexed sources can supply relevant passages automatically. Check the cited document and passage before making a decision. Shared replies never receive these personal document chunks.

Desktop version 0.1.7 supports files up to 50 MB, PDFs up to 2,000 pages and up to 2 MB of extracted text per document. The limits shown in Settings match your installed app. Scanned pages need searchable text; use OCR before adding an image-only PDF. Your document capacity still applies.

What is stored and used

Supported document text is sent to the configured embedding provider to build semantic matches. Document chunks are encrypted before storage; those chunks and searchable embedding vectors are stored in Saywit’s internal Vectors database, under your account. The original files stay on your computer. This is encrypted cloud knowledge; it is not end-to-end encrypted against the Saywit service. A configured answer provider can read the selected passages used in an answer.

A private question retrieves at most five relevant chunks, with document sources. It does not load your whole document collection into the answer. Similarity can miss a useful passage or return an imperfect match, and an answer may be incomplete. Verify the cited source, its date and the people or company it describes.

For local answers, open Settings → Desktop app → Ask with local AI, then choose Search selected cloud knowledge for that question. Only the question you type is used for cloud retrieval; Private conversation history is excluded. The local model produces the answer on this computer. Leaving the choice off keeps local assistance entirely local. Turning on document knowledge does not enable hosted AI for an encrypted conversation.

Supported files and limits

Choose UTF-8 TXT, Markdown or CSV, text-containing PDF, or DOCX. Scanned image-only PDFs need text extraction elsewhere first. Each file is limited to 5 MiB and 128 KiB of extracted text; PDFs are limited to 300 pages. A source supports up to 1,000 documents, with up to 20 files in one file selection and eight selected locations per account on this computer.

Hidden names, symbolic links, system/cache/build/dependency folders and names suggesting passwords, secrets, credentials, tokens or private keys are skipped. Unsupported documents, encrypted/password-protected files, unsafe DOCX contents and files beyond the limits are not indexed. These exclusions do not identify every confidential detail: review what you select. Folder depth, traversal and parsing limits also keep work bounded.

Refresh, pause or remove

Changes in an enabled selected folder schedule another bounded scan while Saywit is running. Folder watching is capped; a five-minute incremental check catches changes beyond that coverage. Use Scan again to check sooner or retry a provider/access failure. A complete, successful scan updates changed documents and removes missing ones. A file known to have failed extraction is excluded from answers. If a scan cannot reach every location, earlier indexed content from unverified locations is kept instead of treating it as deleted; the source shows Scan needs attention, so check its freshness.

Pause excludes a source from answers and stops its local scans; Resume scans it again. Remove excludes its knowledge, schedules removal from internal storage and revokes this computer’s grant. Your original files are not deleted. Knowledge indexed on another computer can be used by the same account, but that computer’s folder permission does not grant this computer access to local files.

If the system picker or a document is unavailable, check the operating system’s folder permission and choose the location again. If indexing is unavailable, check the configured provider and encrypted internal storage setup. Offline answers needing cloud knowledge must wait for a connection; ordinary local assistance keeps its existing behaviour.

More room for document knowledgeUnderstand vectors, choose capacity and review the monthly price.

Why documents need embeddings

Saywit divides a selected document into small, overlapping passages and creates a numerical representation of each passage’s meaning, called an embedding vector. This lets a question such as “What did we agree about delivery?” find a relevant passage even when the document uses different words. One vector represents one passage, not one complete file. A long report needs more vectors than a short note; the exact count depends on its extracted text.

Both the searchable vectors and individually encrypted source passages are kept in Saywit’s internal Vectors database. Capacity pays for keeping that document collection indexed and available, with bounded embedding and search processing. The configured embedding provider receives selected text to create matches, and the selected answer provider can read retrieved passages. This cloud knowledge is encrypted in storage and scoped to its owner; it is not end-to-end encrypted against the service.

What extra capacity helps with

You can keep more company references, project records or people notes available without repeatedly attaching whole documents. A private question retrieves at most five relevant chunks from enabled indexed sources. Those passages can support a detailed explanation of the evidence, assumptions, options and uncertainty, with document citations you can check. More vectors expand which documents can be searched; they do not automatically make answers longer or guarantee a correct decision.

Shared answers do not receive your personal document sources. In an encrypted Private chat, cloud retrieval remains a separate choice for each question, sends only the typed question and leaves conversation history out. The local model can then answer on your computer. See selected document knowledge for permissions and supported files.

Choose a proportional add-on

  1. Open Settings → Subscription → Document capacity, or the same card under Settings → Desktop app.
  2. Check your included allowance, stored vector count, indexed status and this month’s processing usage. Paused sources, pending or failed indexing, and data waiting for removal still occupy capacity.
  3. Choose the total number of paid blocks. Each block adds the same number of vectors and the same monthly price. Five blocks cost five times one block; the card shows your actual vectors per block, total allowance and monthly add-on price.
  4. Choose Review add-on or Review capacity change, check the total, then Continue to Stripe. Stripe shows any tax and the exact prorated amount for a change before you confirm. No purchase happens because you select documents, fill capacity or choose a quantity.
  5. Return to Saywit and choose Refresh status. Paid capacity appears after the subscription is verified. A successful-looking return link alone does not unlock storage.

The add-on renews monthly until canceled and is separate from your Saywit plan. AI answers follow the model or provider you choose; their inference usage is separate from document capacity. Extra capacity never removes company rules, document limits or the five-chunk retrieval limit.

Processing and full-capacity limits

Monthly indexing and search allowances grow with your paid blocks. An indexing unit covers up to 1,600 UTF-8 bytes in one extracted passage; a search unit covers up to 2,000 UTF-8 bytes in a question. Non-English text and longer passages or questions can use several units. Units are counted immediately before an embedding-provider attempt, so an attempt that fails still counts. Unchanged documents are not embedded again. The card shows usage and the reset date; allowances reset on the first day of each month at midnight UTC.

If capacity is full, new or changed documents stop before they are accepted. A replacement needs room for both its old and new passages until old data is removed. Already indexed knowledge stays available; Saywit does not delete it or purchase more space automatically. Add capacity, remove sources you no longer need or wait for pending cleanup, then choose Scan again. A monthly processing limit pauses new embedding or search attempts until it resets or your verified allowance grows.

Reduce or cancel

Choose Manage or cancel add-on to review the subscription in Stripe. A lower quantity takes effect at the next renewal; cancellation stops renewal and paid capacity lasts until the shown end date. If stored knowledge exceeds the new allowance, existing indexed sources remain available and new or revised content waits for room. Removing a source excludes it from answers immediately; its vectors stop occupying capacity after background deletion completes. Your original files stay on your computer.

Quote a webpage in a chatSelect a passage, choose a conversation, then review.

The Quote in Saywit browser extension brings selected text and its source link into your message draft. Select up to 4,000 characters on a webpage, right-click and choose Quote in Saywit, or use the extension’s toolbar button and choose Choose a chat. Sign in if needed, choose a chat, then edit and send your message when ready.

Select a passage. Choose a chat. Review the quote and its source.Illustrated example

Your existing draft is kept. Quotes work in Smart and Private chats, with the usual privacy rules for the chat you choose. Text inside a quote is treated as a quotation, including any assistant shortcuts.

Chrome

In Chrome 123 or later, download the Chrome extension and unzip it. Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the unzipped folder containing manifest.json.

Firefox

Download the Firefox extension and unzip it. In Firefox 140 or later, open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, choose Load Temporary Add-on, and select manifest.json in that folder. This temporary installation lasts until Firefox restarts.

These are developer-installation packages; browser-store signing and publication are still pending. Browser settings pages and some protected pages do not allow extensions to read selected text.

What is shared

Only when you use the extension, it passes your selected text, page title and source URL to a Saywit tab. It does not request your password or read your chats. The pending quote stays in that tab for up to 15 minutes, and nothing is sent to the chat until you press Send. Cancel discards the pending quote.

Review the source link before sending. It includes the webpage’s full address, including any query or fragment, which may contain personal information.

From a message to a conversationVideo calls, consent, and moments you can revisit.

Open a conversation with two people and use its video-call control. Allow camera and microphone access when your browser asks; the other person chooses whether to answer. During the call, use Mute, Camera off, or End call as needed.

Pick up where you left off

A call entry stays in the conversation, showing whether it was incoming or outgoing and what happened—such as Missed call, No answer or Completed. Answered calls also show their duration. Choose Call back on a finished entry while connected to start another call; the other person still chooses whether to answer.

See the outcome and duration in your chat. Call back when you are ready.Illustrated examples · no real call or recording

When a recording has saved, View recording takes you to its separate recording message. Its View call link returns to the call entry. A call entry alone does not mean a recording exists.

You can receive an incoming-call alert while viewing another Saywit conversation. In Settings → Notifications, use Sound on/off and Preview to check the ringtone. If your browser blocks audio, the call panel offers Enable call sound. Opening an alert does not answer the call; choose whether to accept or decline. Background alerts also depend on permission and your device’s notification settings.

Record only when you both agree

  1. Choose Record, then review the companion’s explanation and choose Request recording.
  2. The other person chooses Allow recording or Deny in the call. Recording starts only after both agree; dismissing a question does not agree.
  3. Watch the recording indicator. Choose Stop recording or end the call to finish. Keep Saywit open while the recording saves to the chat for both participants.
Agree to record together. Revisit the saved conversation.Illustrated example

A recording can run for up to two hours or 300 MB, whichever limit comes first, and may save while the call continues. Its file size can stop recording earlier than two hours. If saving fails, keep the page open and use Save to chat to try again, or Download to keep a copy.

When a transcript is available on a saved recording, choose Show transcript and select a time to play that moment. A transcript may be partial or take time to prepare; check the recording before relying on its words. Private recordings keep their transcript on the recording device during preparation and store it encrypted with the recording. Browser support affects recording and transcription availability.

Read a voice message

Use the microphone beside the composer, then review the recording before sending it. Open Show transcript below a voice message to read it, using the same controls as saved video recordings. Select a timestamp to hear that part of the audio.

Supported Smart voice messages prepare their transcripts in the background and reuse the transcript already created for search. Older audio may offer Create transcript. If preparation fails, use Retry transcript; the audio stays available.

For Private voice messages, opening the transcript runs speech recognition on your device. The audio and words are not uploaded for transcription, and this transcript is not saved or shared. Keep the transcript open while it prepares. Device support and file limits apply; wording and timestamps can be imperfect.

Privacy, in plain sight.

How Private encryption worksEncrypted on your device. Opened on theirs.

Private chats use end-to-end encryption for messages and uploaded attachments. Their contents are protected on your device before sending and can be opened only by the participants’ registered receiving devices. Saywit delivers the protected content without reading it.

Choose Private when you create a conversation with one other person. Message text, replies, reactions and edits stay encrypted. Search checks the Private history available on this device; it does not send that content to online AI or search services.

Keep the conversation yours

  • Check the person. Compare your safety numbers through a trusted channel.
  • Protect your device. Lock it when you leave and keep its browser updated.
  • Keep your history. Transfer an encrypted history file and its separate recovery key before clearing the device that can read those messages.

Private encryption is a content-protection feature, not an independent security certification. Saywit’s browser encryption has not received an independent security audit. Read the device and history guidance before relying on it for sensitive conversations.

Your Private devices and historyLink your own device. Keep your history close.

Use up to five devices

Open Settings → Private chats. A browser profile or desktop app with separate storage has its own encryption identity. New messages are encrypted for each active device; signing in alone does not copy earlier history. Remove an unused device to free a slot when five are active.

Link a device once

Sign into the same account on the same Saywit server on your new device and choose Sync on this device. On your original device, choose Approve a new device and Saywit automatically finds the waiting device. If several are waiting, choose the one you are setting up. Compare the 12-digit security code on both screens, then choose Codes match · approve on the original device only if the codes match.

Keep both devices open and online. Check the saved history before removing the original.Illustrated sequence · example security code

Keep both devices open and online while encrypted history syncs. The new device confirms completion after saving the verified messages locally; no files or recovery keys need to be copied. Check your Private chats before clearing or removing the original device. Links expire after ten minutes. Cancel an unfamiliar device or a mismatching code and start again.

Your own devices retain separate encryption identities. Your verified contacts stay verified through the authenticated link. Unfamiliar or changed identities still need review. Saywit relays encrypted history without receiving its readable contents or encryption keys. Only history readable on the original device can be transferred; attachment files must remain available to download.

Check who you are talking to

Compare the 60-digit safety number with the other person through a separate trusted channel. Review unfamiliar devices before approving them. If a previously trusted identity changes, Private messaging stops instead of silently accepting it.

Save a recovery backup

Open Recovery & backup and choose Export encrypted history. Saywit loads the Private history available to that device, including archived chats, and reports when messages could not be included. Save the file and the separately displayed 64-character recovery key. To restore it, sign into the same account on the same server, register the new device, open Recovery & backup and choose Import encrypted history. Select the file and enter its key. If all five slots are used, save the export and key before removing an old registration.

The transfer includes only authenticated history readable on the original device. It keeps the new device’s own encryption identity and does not approve unfamiliar devices for future messages. Attachment details are included, but the files must still be available to download from the chat. Export and import happen on your device; Saywit never receives the readable history file or recovery key.

Keep the file and key separately and only import your own trusted export. Anyone with both can read the saved history. Without the key or a device that can still read the messages, Saywit cannot recover them.

When a chat needs setup

The collapsed Private · needs setup group keeps chats visible when this browser cannot safely use encryption or devices need review. Use a current, supported browser with secure cryptography and encrypted local storage over HTTPS. Missing earlier history is separate: a device ready for new messages can use Sync on this device to sync readable history from another device.

If this device was removed

Choose Sync on this device in Settings → Private chats. Setup happens automatically before linking. To keep using saved history without linking, use Manage devices → Set up this device again. This creates a fresh identity while keeping the previous encrypted vault on this browser or app. Saved history stays here; earlier encrypted messages can be opened locally with retained keys. Keep its site or app storage intact. If those keys were cleared, approve a device link from a device that still has the history.

Remove an old device

The current device and last active device are protected. On a ready device, choose an unused device’s removal control, then confirm. Use Rename to make the device list easier to recognise. New Private messages stop reaching its original registration, and it cannot send from that registration. Saved history and keys remain on the removed device. Removing a Private device does not sign out its account session or erase files or screenshots it already saved.

Keep this browser safe

Someone who controls your unlocked device or a compromised browser may be able to read messages already available there. Keep your browser and operating system updated, lock your device and use trusted extensions.

Signing out keeps the encrypted history on this device. Clearing Saywit’s site storage loses this device’s keys and local history. Export first if you still need that history. Transfers are snapshots and do not back up later messages automatically.

Recipients may save, copy or screenshot content. Deleting a message cannot remove copies they kept, and encryption cannot protect readable history on a compromised device.

What encryption does not hideContent protection is different from anonymity.

Private encryption protects message and attachment contents. Saywit still needs information such as who belongs to a chat, its title, when messages were sent, and file sizes to deliver the conversation. Connections may also reveal an IP address.

Choose a neutral chat title when the topic itself is sensitive. This encryption guidance covers messages and uploaded files; live calls have their own protections and recording choices.

Encryption does not make a conversation anonymous. Words, photos and files can identify people to their recipients. Smart messages and AI requests are not automatically anonymized; share only the personal details needed for your question.

What protects a Smart chatUseful AI, with clear data boundaries.

Smart chats are not end-to-end encrypted. Saywit can read Smart messages and edit history to provide assistants, context and search. Use Private when you want message and uploaded-file content to stay out of online AI processing.

What AI and search services receive

Depending on the features you enable, AI and search services may process your messages, earlier context, profile notes, learned details, supported photos and files, and results from connected services. This information can include names and other personal details; processing it for search does not make it anonymous.

Providers’ retention and training rules depend on the service and account agreement. Review your provider’s policies when choosing it. Saywit does not promise that every provider retains no data.

Share only what helps

In Smart chats, remove unnecessary personal details before sharing. Check original files for identifying information, including details hidden in the file’s properties. A preview does not anonymize what is visible in a photo or change the original download.

You control profile learning and remembered details, shared chat context, and connected-service permissions. An ! assistant reply is visible only to you within a Smart chat; cloud models still use online AI processing. With an installed LocalAI model, generation runs on your computer, while a Smart-chat request and its answer are saved using the chat’s usual shared-message or private-history rules. Public assistant replies exclude learned personal memory, but can use written notes shared by the chat’s participants and its shared chat context.

A second step at sign-inPasskeys and one-time codes for your account.

Open Settings → Security to add another step when you sign in. After your password, Saywit asks you to confirm with one of the methods you have turned on.

  • Passkeys: confirm with your fingerprint, face, device PIN or security key, in a compatible browser.
  • Email codes: a short-lived, single-use code goes to your verified email address.
  • SMS codes: a code goes to your verified phone number, when SMS delivery is available.

Email and SMS codes become available after you verify that contact detail. Adding your first method needs your password and a successful check of the new method. Later changes also ask you to confirm with a method you already use.

Use more than one method, so you can still sign in if a device or mailbox is lost. Removing your last method turns two-step verification off. After a security change, other browser sessions need to verify again and existing API tokens stop working. Company accounts follow their company’s sign-in policy.

Share a login, not the passwordOptional 1Password protection in Smart chats.

Turn on Settings → Connections → Personal 1Password, then install and unlock the 1Password browser extension.

When a Smart chat message contains a Login: and a Password: field, Saywit pauses before sending and opens a review form on your device. Save the login with the extension in your own vault, check its website, then choose I saved it · send protected message.

The chat receives a small protected card marked Saved by sender, without the password. Password values never go to Saywit’s server, and other chat members do not gain access to your vault.

While protection is on, it applies to Smart chat messages, edits and agent prompts. It recognises clearly labelled login details only; unlabelled secrets in text, photos or files are not detected. Private chats keep their own device encryption.

Three ways to make a conversation more usefulFind a detail, revisit a moment, move a plan forward.
  1. 01Remember the scene

Open Search and try “the beach place Maya sent”. In an eligible Smart chat, a photo or message can help you find the original.

  2. 02Return to the moment

Open a saved call recording. When its transcript is available, select a timestamp to hear that part again.

  3. 03Move the plan forward

Connect your calendar or task service in Settings. Ask your assistant for the next step, then review the action when prompted.
